Leonard Herman

Leonard C. Herman, 90, of rural Geneva passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 3 p.m. at his home. He was born Saturday, Dec. 2, 1933, in Linn Grove to Charles L. and Dorothy (Kave) Herman. He was married Saturday, Nov. 29, 1952, in Geneva to Rita Robinson.
He attended Hartford Township High School. He formerly attended the St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church. He worked at Portland Forge where he was a tow motor operator for 46 years. He was an Adams County farmer for most of his life. He enjoyed playing pingpong and was known as the pingpong champion at Hartford Township. He enjoyed bowling and coaching Little League and especially loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
He will be sadly missed by his two sons, Michael (Brenda) Herman of Bluffton; and Randall (Beth) Herman of Geneva; daughter, Teresa (Douglas) Heckler of Geneva; seven grandchildren, Camille (Shane) Himes; Ashley (Greg) Mayne; and Kaitlyn Heckler, all of Bluffton; Lindsey (Jacob) Hilty of Bryant; and Jordan Heckler; Thomas Herman; and Kaleigh Herman, all of Geneva; and three great-grandchildren, Sophia Mayne; Reece Himes; and Gracie Mayne, all of Bluffton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Dec. 27, 1993; four brothers, James, Richard, Wesley and Jerry Herman; and three sisters, Ellen Butcher; Maxine Burgess; and Frieda Stevens.
Visitation will be Friday, May 3 from 3-7 p.m. and Saturday, May 4 for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service to celebrate his life at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva. Officiating will be Pastor Paul VanCise. Burial will be at St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church Cemetery in Geneva.
